Do you remember Megaupload? The site that used to let you upload yout own files. It was shut down since there was a claim that it encouraged piracy.

It has been launched and its new name is Mega.co.nz.

Mega.co.nz about us page says:

“We are a dedicated group of technologists who were given the time, opportunity and Internet access to build an awesome cloud storage service that will help protect your privacy. We have programmed this Internet service from scratch in Auckland, New Zealand. Unlike most of our competitors, we use a state of the art browser based encryption technology where you, not us, control the keys”

Mega.co.nz says that every customer would have 50 gigabytes of free storage which is far more than what is offered by rival services such as Dropbox or Microsoft’s SkyDrive.

mega has claimed that they are already getting millions of hits ever since they are launched.
