New Epson EX6220 Lightweight, Bright, Cost effective Projector
First things first. New Epson EX6220 projector is a data projector and is very good at it.
The technology used is three-chip LCD which will give rainbow free images as compared to a DLP projector. Its resolution is 1280×800 with a brightness of 3000 lumens. If your objective is watching movies and if you are looking to use it for a home theatre, there surely are better choices available. For home theatre use, I suggest you to look at some DLP projectors which are in the same price range but give better HD quality videos for the movie-like experience.
You can use Epson EX6220 as a permanently installed machine or its also lightweight which makes it a good portable projector also. Its price starts from $599.99.
Data image and Video quality: The EX6220 natural colour mode is bright and vibrant. The usage of LCD technology plays a role as well that this technology historically had brighter images as compared with a DLP projector.
If primary reason for your purchase is for data projection like PPTs, XLS, Word and so on, then it will give you a crisp image quality.
Black text on white background and white text on black background are clearly visible even for small font sizes and there is no blurring of text.
One very useful feature is that it can show up both video files and image files from a USB stick. It gives EX6220 that extra edge to make it more portable.
This is since you don’t have to carry your laptop along with you while going out for presentations. It also has a soft carrying case plus a shoulder strap.
Note that its classified in the business projector category so there is no 3D support here.
It’s not a perfect home theatre projector but if you have not used a projector before then it can very well serve dual purpose – both as a data and a video projector to watch sports on a bigger screen.
It does have features to reduce noise and it also has an auto iris. This helps making black look darker.
As regards video quality, it’s worth noting that it is designed for a 1280 by 800 resolution which allows you to see HD video at 720p.
It’s a lightweight projector at 5.3 pounds. Its size is 3.1″ H x 11.6″ W x 9.0″ D.
Epson specifies the lamp life of EX6220 as 5,000 hours in Normal mode and 6,000 hours in Eco mode. Some of the other projectors we have seen come with a spec life of 2000-3000 hours.
Replacement lamp for EX6220 is available for under $100 so the recurring cost is less.
Epson EX6220 has a 2-watt mono speaker which has a good enough volume for a small to medium room. In case you want to use it as a home theatre projector, you will need a stereo sound. In home theatre use, it is very likely that you will anyway have a TV or a 5.1 channel receiver with speakers that can be used for your acoustic pleasure.
