Patriot Supersonic Rage XT 32GB 3.0 Pen Drive: Review & Specs

With an attractive price (about 40 euros for 32 GB), this USB Patriot Supersonic Rage XT 32GB 3.0 is very fast read, especially for large files. Too bad its write speed as it is so small (twice the speed of a good USB 2.0).

Patriot Supersonic Rage XT 32GB USB 3.0

Cheap, USB 3.0 Patriot Supersonic Rage XT 32GB Memory exceeds 140 MB / s read for large file transfers. Unfortunately it is three times slower in writing.

The promise

Patriot Supersonic Rage XT 32GB Memory offers a USB 3.0 that uses the same design as the USB 2.0 model XPorter Rage offers high throughput and read (180 MB / s against 50MB / s write). The price is attractive (about 40 euros for 32 GB), but what are the actual performance of this key? Here is the answer.

Reality

Pendrive Patriot Supersonic Rage XT 32GB has a compact with a retractable USB connector. You will not lose the cap, but the connector is not fully protected. A red LED blinks during data transfer, but it is placed too far into the housing, which limits visibility. The Patriot Supersonic Rage XT 32GB is formatted in FAT32 to be directly usable on Windows and Mac OS.

The playback speed is its forte

After testing transfer files in Windows, in a test it was measured the actual flow rates of approximately 143 MB / s read and 42MB / s write. It takes approximately 5 seconds to transfer a 700 MB DivX key to the hard drive of your computer and 16 seconds for the reverse operation. Speeds advertised by Patriot Memory are much higher than reality, particularly in reading. In comparison, the Supersonic from the same manufacturer is more balanced flow read (120 MB / s) and write those (69 MB / s). The Patriot Supersonic Rage XT 32GB loses velocity for medium sized files (MP3, Jpeg pictures). For the transfer of files, playback speed is still good (84 MB / s) but the write speed drops to only 14 MB / s.
The verdict

The Patriot Supersonic Rage XT 32GB offers a good price / performance ratio if you use it for temporary storage of large files, such as HD video. The read speed is its strong point but it is a pity it is not more swift writing.
