Reliance Jio to give 35GB free Internet data with its LYF phone

Disclaimer: This article is based on internal employee communication by Reliance Jio. The offer / service is not available to public. LYF smartphone users can take up this once the services are offered to all. You will have to wait a little longer to get your hand on a Reliance Jio SIM card.

This plan will be valid for three months. In this offer, customers would get 4G speed for upto 10 GB of data per month and subsequent browsing will be unlimited at a limited speed of 256 kbps.

Reliance Jio announced that the company will be introducing its 4G enabled handsets for their Reliance Jio 4G services. LYF smartphones come in different flavours – Flame, Earth, Water and Wind. As you would recollect, LYF (which is a Reliance retail subsidiary) branded handsets were launched about 3 months back.

If the news reports are to go by (and some common sense), Reliance Jio will go all out to capture market share from established market players like Vodafone, Airtel & Idea. Till then have a look at below picture and take a deep breath.

Reliance Jio launch in India

Unless Jio offers data plans at some great attractive prices, it will be difficult to attract people to change service provider. In my own case, I have been paying apx. Rs. 2400 for Airtel 4G service simply because other providers do not have good signal coverage where I live. It gives me 25 GB download and no calling plan, its data only. I truly believe this should come down to increase the uptake of 4g service.

With every LYF phone, you can get one postpaid or prepaid Jio SIM card. You need to have these phones only and the plan will not work on other branded devices. Offer will also include a free subscription to the premium pre-installed Jio Apps such as Jio Pay, Jio VoD , Jio Beats, Jio Mags, Jio Drive, Jio Money etc.

Jio money will allow you to pay for various services. It remains to be seen, but expect features like another app ‘Chillar’ or “Paytm”.

There are expected to be several HD quality ads free TV channels which will spoil you with choice. There will also be songs in several Indian languages.

We will be keeping an eye on launch of Reliance Jio and will update once we know more. Launching a 4G service is a big exercise where you have to ensure that your mobile coverage is well tested across your target regions to avoid customer complaints from day 1.

Jio 4G Technology
Jio is a little late entrant in 4G race and its sure to try and win market share

A Telecom company also needs to ensure that its IT systems in the background are geared up to cater to customer signing in, billing enquiry, issue resolution. It also needs to ensure that the call center is geared up for the volume of customer expected, to avoid negative reviews on social platforms. It won’t be surprising that Reliance Jio launch will be staggered in various regions to make sure customers are taken care of.
