Review of Toshiba Portege Z830 Ultrabook

Just few days before at computex 2012, a lot of ultrabooks were announced and this chain of ultrabooks is featuring latest hardware and specification. Today we have brought a latest review of Toshiba Portege Z830 ultrabook.

Design and Ergonomics

This Ultrabook is made in the style of the Portege series; moreover Toshiba is not the first time produces lightweight ultra-thin notebooks. Toshiba Portege Z830 is made of magnesium-aluminium alloy which is similar to other ultrabooks. It is also an impressive book which weighs around 1.08 kg. It is equipped with 47 Wh battery which can give a long battery backup without any doubt.

The bottom of a Toshiba Portege Z830 is flat, just near to the back side there are a few circular connectors.

This ultrabook is featuring standard connector’s ports and few of them are located on the side of the far side, on the left there is card reader and two audio ports on the right – Kingston lock and USB 3.0. Pointed front face contains three LEDs and a pair of spaced apart active speakers, but on the back side is a whole scattering of sockets and radiator cooling system. Here you will find the charger jack, two USB, HDMI, and two very rare among ultrabook D-sub port and RJ45.

Making a working panel of Toshiba Portege Z830 is typical for laptops manufacturer. Moreover, it has a different keyboard layout and well-thought-out tactile selected characteristics, it is really nice to work with. It is equipped with a backlight off timer, and in addition, it also has waterproof properties.

Above the keyboard there are two hardware buttons to quickly switch to activate the browser and display devices, the latter is very useful in two-monitor operation or scheme often connect your monitor / projector.

Above the touchpad Toshiba Portege Z830 posted another hardware button to turn off the touchpad. Touchpad itself is not bad, but the mirror-shiny buttons are not too practical in real life. Between the keys is a fingerprint scanner, and under them – a number of status LEDs.

Functionality, operation

As we noted at the outset of the material, Toshiba Portege Z830 is based on a platform of Intel Sandy Bridge. In the U.S., the buyer offers ready-9 modifications in price from $ 899 to $ 1429, as well as an opportunity to build the configuration of your dreams.

During the review of Toshiba Portege Z830 it proved to be strong middle peasants, expect more from a configuration based on Intel Sandy Bridge would have been wrong. From a full battery capacity of 47 Wh this ultrabook worked for more than 7 hours in the emulation mode to read and not held up to two hours at maximum load.

I noted again that the weight of a 13-inch Toshiba Portege Z830 is only 1.1 kg for a typical in-class level in the 1.3-1.5 kg. I am glad that this is not achieved at the expense of the banal cuts tank battery and by proper use of magnesium-aluminium alloy and reinforced honeycomb internal structure. To match the weight and thickness ultrabook its thickness is around 16 mm, which has made it a compact and lightweight.

A rich set of connectors, including just three USB, HDMI, and audio ports allows you to split without problems. The designers have thought about the user and made one of the USB on the right side plate – right under the owner’s hand. Special disadvantages for Toshiba Portege Z830 could not be found, not like a glossy design and details of the indicators of activity and distractions at work in the dark.

Conclusion

As a result, Toshiba Portege Z830 is an excellent, albeit very expensive “ultrabook warrior”. It is best for those who need ultrabook with minimum weight and maximum autonomy.
