Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook for $ 699: Review & Specs

Amazon has put up for sale the new Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook featuring processors Ivy Bridge and priced at $ 699, fulfilling the promise of Intel price cut to boost its a new concept of ultraportable.

Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook

The Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook is not the most powerful and lightest of the platform, but its price between the cheapest we’ve seen in the market may be an attraction to boost sales of these models and compete with both Apple MacBook Air as the cannibalization of electronic tablets.

Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook Specs:

Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook
• Manufacturer: Samsung

• Price: $ 999
• Processor: Intel Core i5 3317U

The screen of the Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook LCD is LED backlit 13.3-inch with native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. In these models of Ultrabook, in our view, should be offered at least 1600 x 900 pixels although the panel used is of good quality with SuperBright technology for 300 nits of brightness, glare matte finish and appreciate after intensive use.

Its housing is made of aluminium and fibber to increase strength and light weight for a weight of 1.48 pounds with four-cell battery according to the manufacturer to extend the range to eight hours.

Although we fear that in actual use will not be so bad, should help the presence of a third-generation microprocessor Intel Core i5-3317U ultra low voltage dual core and frequencies from 1.7 to 2.6 GHz with Turbo Boost. Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook has 4 Gbytes of RAM DDR3-1600 MHz (expandable to 8 GB) and the HD 4000 integrated graphics.

As for storage, Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook includes a 500 GB hard drive at 5400 rpm. Nothing like solid state drives for price reasons but the Samsung model includes the motherboard flash memory of 24 Gbytes ExpressCache technology to speed boot times and frequently used applications.

Among its connectivity are Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi N, Bluetooth 4.0, WiDi, USB 3.0 and 2.0, memory card reader, multi video outputs VGA and HDMI. Also Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook is featuring 1.3 megapixel webcam. No optical drives, a component that is not easily seen in the Ultrabook as we predicted.

Still, the Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit has the basics that we can ask a consumer Ultrabook but one SSD and higher screen resolution. In return, Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook is priced at $ 699 a lot more affordable than what we’ve been seeing so far. Hopefully other manufacturers will be encouraged.
