Mach Xtreme Techology MX-ES 32GB USB 3.0 Pendrive: Review & Specs

With an attractive design, the Mach Xtreme Techology MX-ES 32GB USB 3.0 Pendrive offers high speed to transfer large files with a good balance between reading and writing. But it is expensive.

MX-ES 32GB

Thanks to its SLC memory, the Mach Xtreme Techology MX-ES 32GB USB 3.0 Pendrive reaches speeds of 145 MB / s read and 130MB / s write for large file transfers.

The promise

Mach Xtreme Techology MX-ES 32GB USB 3.0 Pendrive is equipped with a USB memory flash SLC (Single Level Cell). This type of memory is, according to the manufacturer, faster and more robust than memory MLC (Multi Level Cell) used by the majority of USB. Mach Xtreme Technology announces very high speeds: 170 MB / s read and 185 MB / s write. What are the actual rates?

Reality

After testing under Windows, the Mach Xtreme Techology MX-ES 32GB USB 3.0 Pendrive proves very fast for large files with not only high data rates but also a very good balance between reading (145 MB / s) and write (130 MB / s). It takes only 5 seconds to write a 700 MB DivX file on the key and less than 5 seconds to read the file. Excellent scores even though we are far from the performance reported by the manufacturer. Note that the pendrive gently gets warmed (44 degrees achieved after intensive use).

Little swift for writing small files

The playback speed is very high for small files (115 MB / s for MP3 and 105 MB / s for photos JPeg), but rates collapsed in writing (20 MB / s for MP3 and only 11 MB / s for photos JPeg). In comparison, the Mach Xtreme Techology MX-ES 32GB USB 3.0 Pendrive is faster and provides better read rates for writing small files. Finally, the MX-ES attracts by the elegance of its case metallic red and blue activity LED’s, very well placed at the end of the key. Too bad it is delivered without any software!

The verdict

Mach Xtreme Techology MX-ES 32GB USB 3.0 Pendrive actually obtains excellent results for the transfer of large files with a very good balance between speed reading and the writing. However, we have not been totally convinced by the contribution of SLC flash memory, which justifies the high price of the key.
