Micromax launched Canvas 4 smartphone today which will replace Canvas HD as the company’s main Android phone. Micromax has been launching smartphones thick and fast and I’m not convinced it’s taking any significant technological / specification leaps.
Canvas 4 zooming in….
Here is what I mean: Initially, there was Canvas 2 A110 which was not in stock for several days. Then on Valentine ’s Day this year, it launched Canvas HD. Due to the shortage of stock again, it took between 2 to 4 weeks for consumers to get their hand on it. This means consumers have been using it for barely 3.5 to 4 months. Is the shelf life of smartphones so less?
Then came Canvas 3D. Not much to write home about in this phone.
Now, its turn of Canvas 4.
Let’s look at the specifications of Canvas 4 Vs Canvas HD.
Salient features of Canvas 4:
Like Canvas HD, it is powered by the quad-core processor by MediaTek. Canvas 4 also has a 5-inch screen with 720p resolution. It has 16GB internal storage and 1GB RAM; expandable with microSD card. It is powered by Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) and has battery capacity of 2,000mAh.
In a nutshell, specifications look very similar.
So what are the differences between Canvas 4 and Canvas HD?
Key difference is in the design and software features. The outer case is made up of plastic and an aluminum frame. There are some unique features like ‘blow to unlock’ the phone. It supports smart gestures that allow a user to answer a call by just picking the phone up, put it in silent mode by turning it upside down. It also allows dialing a number with help of proximity sensor. It also has multiple video viewing and eye-sensitive video pausing.
The phone has a 13MP primary camera as compared to 8MP of Canvas HD.
Canvas 4 Launch:
Apparently 11,500 units of Canvas 4 have been pre-booked in less than a week. The waiting time on previous models had lot of customers complaining. I hope Micromax has got its supply chain sorted to meet the deliveries in reasonable time. With this speed, could Canvas 5 could be launched around Diwali? Assuming there is something called Canvas 5, off course.
