Organization CompactFlash Association announced the development of the new specification standard – XQD 2.0. Its development is supported by the Sony Corporation.
It is noted that the immediate development of the specification will XQD 2.0 Group XQD Technical Workgroup. As a framework it will use the specification XQD 1.0, which was released in October 2010. At the same time encouraged to participate and other stakeholders to develop a new specification. According to the CompactFlash Association, a memory card standard XQD 1.0 and the corresponding connectors already widely available on the market. The new specification provides XQD 2.0 using the same interface connector, which XQD 1.0, while providing higher performance and backward compatibility. The new XQD 2.0 format will be supported by VPG (Video Performance Guarantee) with profiles able to maintain a digital intermediate format such as ProRes, DPX and DNXhd. The developers announced the following key features XQD 2.0:

Support PCI Express 3.0: 8 GB / s (up to 1000 MB / s);
back support for PCI Express 1.0 and PCI Express 2.0;
Support for new profiles VPG;
consumption of 5 mW power in idle mode.
It is expected that the specification XQD 2.0 will be available in the second half of 2012.
